Lesson Development

  • A sentence in the Active Voice, when the subject or the doer of an action appears at the beginning of the sentence.

    Examples: 1. Debbie(subject) swept(verb) the floor(object).

    2. Zul (subject) painted(verb) the garden gate(object)


     

  • A sentence in the Passive Voice, when the object or receiver of an action appears at the beginning of the sentence. Sometimes, the subject need not even be mentioned.

    Examples: 1. The floor(object) was swept(verb) by Debbie(Subject).

    2. The garden gate(object) was painted(verb) by Zul.


 

  • Simple Present Tense – sells(active voice), is sold(passive voice)
  • Present Continuous Tense – is sweeping(active voice), floor is being(passive voice)
  • Present Perfect Tense – have eaten(active voice), have been eaten(passive voice)
  • Simple Past Tense – scolded(active voice), was scolded(passive voice)
  • Past Continuous Tense – was cooking(active voice), was being cooked(passive voice)
  • Past Perfect Tense – had bought(active voice), had been bought(passive voice)
  • Simple Future Tense – will wash(active voice), will be washed(passive voice)
